A Book is Launched ... in Real Time

I've always been a storyteller. In kindergarten I produced puppet shows. In grade school I gave speeches and impromptu classrooom performances. In high school I played in a rock band and wrote folk songs. In church I preached. Apparently, storytelling is just what I do.
So it was natural, when my health this past summer took a turn to the surreal, for me to begin telling stories about it. At first, the stories were therapeutic. I just wanted to get a handle on what was going on with my body as my mind raced to catch up. But then it occurred to me that I wasn't alone. Many have been faced with the same task, especially when their bodies begin betraying them.
Last week, I asked you, if you were at all interested in becoming part of the conversation, if you'd prefer to read instalments of my journal in real time or as a story wrapped up as a book at the end. You replied: both. So we can do that. But I won't offer those instalments here on my blog, where I may want to write about other things. Instead, I need to redirect you over to Substack, where you can subscribe (for free) to receive my weekly updates to your email inbox.
Thank you for your interest and support. The journey continues. But you can read about it for yourself and leave your comments, beginning on November 1, 2026, on Substack.
PS. One quick update: my treatment starts on Wednesday. Some of it seems pretty scary to me, and some of the side effects require anticipatory treatments of their own. Do keep me in your thoughts and prayers.

Brian, where is this substack and how do I get on it??
Keep the faith my dear friend. You are an inspiration to us all for your courage and for your amazing will to share your personal journey. My thoughts are always with you and I hope my prayers provide you comfort. Keep strong Brian - sending lots of love!
You have been and will continue to be in my prayers as you navigate this medical journey. I'm so glad you decided to do the instalment thing - I meant to reply to your last post and forgot!
It’s been a minute since Jean, yourself and I were volunteering at the Inn From the Cold and having breakfast at the Galaxie. I loved our discussions. I’ve been a little out of touch lately - I’m sorry to hear about your illness. Sending lots of prayers, love and healing your way. Hope to see you soon 🩷 Melinda
I shall be sending positive thoughts/prayers you way. As you said, you are not alone in this. Try keeping in touch.
